The One and Only Truly Original....

The original 12 foot Enigma, designed and built by Matt Layden. Ready to roll for the 2006 Ultimate Florida Challenge:

Here under sail:

Now imagine stretching the hull to 15+ feet (460cm) and a rigid deckhouse in place of canvas. Voila! Enigma 460.
OK, so its still a drawing. I'll be working on that.

George: Thanks alot for your blog on the building of your enlarged Enigma. The project is coming right along and looks good. I have only recently become interested in the concept of micro cruising after building a couple of boats and owning a couple more. We started with a SanFrancisco Pelican (purchased) then sold it and built a Wharram Tiki 21 Cat which we day sailed for about 10 years. Then purchased a ferro Concrete Benford 20 which we owned about 13 years, but only sailed it a couple. As we moved up to bigger boats, they took more and more time to rig and keep up, so now I'm down to a 8' dink and looking for another project. Parodox is enticing, but a larger Enigma is more so because of the finer lines forward and nicer entry. I'm standing in line for the plans for the larger Enigma and possibly one in the 16 foot range that would accomodate my other half also. In the mean time keep up the good work and thanks for the pictures and other info on your blog. Ready builder, hec
